On this site, you will carry out various rehabilitation works on the South Wing of the Maison des Chevaliers, wich one part is classified on Historical Memorial. You will participate in the repair and installation of a landing door (cutting of the lintel and the straight legs with chamfer), you will carry out small masonry, pitting of coatings, lime pointing as well as small works of installation of the external court (earthwork). You will thus be able to acquire many technical skills in these various fields. These different missions will also allow you to learn to work in a team, to show adaptability, listening skills and solidarity while respecting safety instructions. To carry out the work, you will be supervised by a mason specialized in the restoration of old buildings, a stone cutter and volunteers from the CICP. The latter will transmit their know-how with pedagogy and enthusiasm. Local young people from the youth service and from an educational center will come and work alongside you. You will be accommodated in a room with mattresses on the floor. A kitchen and sanitary facilities will be at your disposal. Each volunteer will be asked to take an active part in the collective life of the group: preparation of meals, cleaning of dishes, cleaning of toilets and premises. You will walk to the work site.
Located in the south of the Ardeche department, Viviers is an ancient episcopal city overlooking the Rhone Valley. Over the centuries, the city of Viviers has developed around the old center, outside of the fortifications and today has 3700 inhabitants. You will have the opportunity to meet the local population. Visits of the old center of Viviers, of the Lafarge cement factory and of its old working-class city will also be proposed to you. The Centre International Construction et Patrimoine (C.I.C.P) is an association working to safeguard and promote the heritage, particularly architectural, of the city of Viviers and its surroundings. For almost ten years, the association, in association with the town, has been hosting an international youth work camp each year as part of the rehabilitation of a part of the Maison des Chevaliers called the South Wing. The Maison des Chevaliers is the former home of Noel Albert, a former salt merchant, art lover and man of power, he is an illustrious character of the Vivarois Renaissance. Located in the old center of the city, this monument is now the subject of many rehabilitation and preservation works. Lover of architectural heritage, Viviers is waiting for you
A good physical condition is necessary for this work camp. In the context of group life, skills such as listening, respect, tolerance and open-mindedness will be necessary.
