Help youngsters in the local society:
The work we do is important for the community and forms something cultural in our area for young people. Before Gnist Festival there was no local place for youngsters to express themselves with the music or art talent that they possess. We give them a professional environment where they can show what they got! And of course, socialize with other youngsters.
Festival preparations:
There will be quite a lot of variety in the work tasks. In the first few days, we will need to transform the open area (in which the festival is held) into a festival with a food court, two stages, and a lot of decoration. All the work will take place outside, and it can be a bit cold with a chance of rain, so dress accordingly. The work is not too intense, and we like to have a good time prepping for the festival days. Some work will start the day you arrive, but you will of course have time to settle in.
The work itself will the first few days be a combination of work, breaks, and leisure time, in that sense that we have some prepping that needs to be done before a deadline. The work consists, for example, of making signs, painting the signs, setting up toilet/bath trolleys, and setting up the two stages (There will be professional people to guide and do most of the work with the stages, we just need to help them a bit) and a lot of other things that will appear on the days.
Festival days:
On the actual festival days, the volunteers will get a schedule with 2 x 4-hour shifts, which may include: Standing behind a bar, cleaning toilets or the festival area, guarding the entrance, or another job that we need at that specific time.
Practicalities:
No experience is needed, just passion! There are no language requirements, but there must be a way to communicate with the organizers. The organizers speak Danish and English. No need for specific documents.
On the festival days, there will be professional safety and Samaritans. There will be some organizers (also young volunteers) who will know the big picture and make sure that everything goes as planned. There will also be other local volunteers, who will work beside you with the same work, together with you.
Sleeping facilities:
The festival has a sleeping area, where during the actual festival days the guest and the volunteers will sleep in tents. We will also sleep in that area on the days leading up to the festival days. We can provide tents for you, just let us know. Then you just need to bring sleeping bags and an air mattress or similar.
Bathroom facilities:
The showers are shared in the bathroom trolly. The toilets have running water, and there will be always fresh drinking water accessible.
Kitchen facilities:
There will not be access to a kitchen, but we will provide every meal. Let us know if you are vegetarian, vegan, or if you have any other dietary restrictions. It will be professionally cooked food.
There will be electricity at a garage we use as a workshop nearby the sleeping area, but we cannot promise there will be Wi-Fi. There is no washer or dryer.
The place is quite isolated but there are neighbours around the area, so you must take that into account and not listen to very loud music after 11 pm.
The area is close to the sea, and it is a bit out in the countryside. The area is an old military missile launcher site, but it’s empty except for two garages we use for the festival.
Gnist Festival is a music and art festival, that shines a light on the art of young people. The festival is made by the young and for the young. It is a two-day festival with a lot of music acts, art exhibitions, and many other activities like community dance, techno yoga, short films, and more. We value the spirit of the youth, culture, music, and all other forms of art.
No special documentation is necessary. No COVID-19 vaccine requirements. No language requirements, but we require a way to communicate with the organizers. The organizers speak Danish and English.
When you arrive in Denmark, you will need to get to Køge Station from Copenhagen airport, then we will come and pick you up and drive you to the campsite. There will be a transport fee between the airport and Køge Station.
No clothing restrictions. But it can be quite cold, so bring some warm clothes.
