Work: Volunteers will be involved in the operation of the farm (preparing food and feeding the animals or cleaning pens), and garden work (watering, weeding, harvesting fruit and vegetables, cutting grass, and raking). This work is also suitable for children. Adult volunteers might be occasionally involved in making minor repairs, chopping wood or pruning bushes. No previous experience with a similar type of work is required. The work will take place mainly outdoors, on the educational farm approx. 500 m from the accommodation. Bring suitable clothes and boots that can get dirty and a raincoat.
Study part: PROUD is equipped with a lot of tools for educational and scientific activities which participants can try such as catching aquatic or terrestrial invertebrates, microscopy, etc.
You will be accommodated in a renovated building of a former mill. There are rooms for 6-10 people with shared bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Large families will be accommodated in their own rooms, smaller families might share a room. WIFI and washing machine are available. You will cook your own meals from provided ingredients and clean their accommodation. From Monday to Friday lunch will be provided. For the rest of the food preparation, you will divide into cooking teams and make food for everybody. You might bring your favourite recipes and local ingredients.
Location: Horazdovice is a town (5,000 inhabitants) in the Pilsen Region, southwest of the Czech Republic. The phone reception in the town is good. There are all the necessary services such as grocery stores, ATMs and pharmacies. You can also find a castle, an aquapark, a children's playground or a natural park in the town.
Leisure time: Volunteers might go on a trip to the ruins of Rabi Castle with a guided tour and, if the water conditions of the Otava River permit, a rafting trip down the river. We can go on a town tour with a crypto-graphic game, on a trip to the ruins of Prachen, swim in the Otava river, go to an aquapark, make handicraft activities, and play board games or sports. During the project there will be an international evening, where you can present specialities from your country or games for children.
This project is organised in cooperation with the environmental centre PROUD which provides environmental education courses for school groups on their educational farm. PROUD courses offer an alterna-tive to the teaching of science, ecology and social science disciplines at schools in the region. The emphasis is on direct contact with the environment and experiential pedagogy. The goal of the project is to improve the environment of the widely used teaching farm area, to ensure its daily operation and to enable families to have direct contact with the animals on a daily basis. At this project, you are actively contributing to the achievement of the UN SDG15 of Life on Land and UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Volunteers are required to send a sworn declaration of the nonexistence of infectious diseases. Participation fee: 50€ adult and 25 € child. Bring specialities from your home country or region to share during the international evening.
The project is designed mainly for families with children over 5 years old, for those who like animals, and nature, and enjoy getting to know new places. Possible risk for people suffering allergies - hay, animal hair, pollen.
