You will support the school farm in feeding and caring for and lovingly occupying the diverse animals. Active support is needed for the expansion of the paddock.
Accomodation:
You will stay in the former estate of the Bülow family, which was built around 1860 and converted into a school hostel. The building is located at the gates of the rose city of Sangerhausen, surrounded by oak forests, orchards and fields.
Food:
The volunteers will prepare their own meals. It would be nice if you could bring some simple recipes and special spices for cooking from your home country.
The school farm is located about an hour's drive west of Leipzig.
The area around the farm can be explored on foot or by bike. The natural environment of our farm and the expert staff from the region offer a variety of opportunities for nature discovery and recreation, such as baking bread, churning butter, harvesting and processing fruit. Likewise, an excursion to a larger city such as Leipzig can be planned. The activities are discussed in the group and decided together.
The youth and school farm is an extracurricular place of learning for children of all ages and school types. Groups of children actively experience everyday farming life with all its traditions, the responsible handling of animals and plants and the cycle of nature at first hand. Horses, sheep, pigs, goats and donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, pigeons and ducks live there. The staff of the youth hostel is beeing actively supported by expert helpers and companies. These include fruit and dairy farmers, beekeepers, hunters, foresters, ecologists and providers of traditional crafts.
Please be fully vaccinated (2 to 3 shots of one of the following vaccines: BioNtech/Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson&Johnson) or recovered (date of infection must be min. 28 days old and max. 90 days old).
