Junquillal is a very important breeding in Pacific Costa Rica of endangered leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea), black (Chelonia mydas agassizii) and Loras (Lepidochelys olivacea) area. Looking mitigate poaching of turtles and get increase the welfare of the local population Junquillal, Life verdiazul Association takes up the conservation project of Pacific leatherback turtles (CBP) to ensure optimal conditions for nesting turtles through active conservation community support. Possible tasks for the volunteer: The work of night patrols along the beach and nesting sites for turtles Monitoring of nests Ensure that hatchlings born will not die before reaching the sea Supporting the reforestation program and adaptation to climate change Keep the beach clean of waste
International and local volunteers stay at the volunteer house from the project, in the VERDIAZUL Headquarters in Junquillal, near the beach. The placement has all services including Wi-Fi access. If the group becomes big, more than 10 volunteers, local hotels could be the option as well, it always depends on the availability. Vegetarian food will be available. 3 meals per day will be provided.

ACI Costa Rica has developed partnerships with other networks and programs such as: The Committee of Coordination of International Voluntary Service (CCIVS), associate to UNESCO, The Alliance of European Organizations (ALLIANCE), Volunteering Matters from United Kingdom (VM), VolontEUROPE, Weltwärs from the German government, and ERASMUS + from the European Union. The experiences we promote are mainly focused on incoming and outgoing programs, involving long and short-term periods, for groups and individuals. These programs are managed in cooperation with our local Costa Rican networks, partner organizations and communities such as: The Federation of Social Organizations (FOS) and YO ME UNO from the private initiate, and others.
Required skills and interests of the volunteer: Be willing to work and learn, to be proactive and dynamic Have strong environmental values, love nature Good physical condition, be willing to walk from 2 to 4 hours per day. Willingness to live in rural and simple accommodation Medical and travel insurance (required) Send filled registration form and motivation letter Willing to collaborate in activities outdoors and field work
Things to Bring to Verdiazul: Mosquito repellent / after bite cream Sun block and Rain coat Closed shoes and extra shoes like flip flops (to walk on the beach on night patrols) Black or dark clothes (for night patrols) and Work clothes (that you don´t mind getting dirty) Flashlight with red filter (mandatory), is recommended headlight
