As a volunteer, you will participate in the registration, conservation and restoration work of the front wing of the Casa de la Palestina, within the Valorization plan that is proposed as a continuation of the work carried out after the 2017 earthquake.
Within this agenda, we will register and restore the paving of its floors, very affected by time, earthquakes and some looting. Conservation and restoration will also be given to the adobe walls, with historical and traditional methods, rescuing and putting this knowledge into practice.
For the doors and windows, we will collaborate with the elaboration of guards and moldings, by the hand of artisans and architecture professionals. Likewise, we will attend to the cracks and joints that warrant it, to prevent its deterioration.
Complementary to all this, the volunteers are a central part, in the carpentry, blacksmithing, painting, waterproofing and liberation of the bays affected by time, as well as the process of rescuing their history.
We have prepared an experience close to the people of Huaquechula. We will be able to live in a small farm with all the basic services and close to both our work space and markets, shops and public transport stops.
Huaquechula has various historical sites to visit as well as many traditions that will be discovered by the volunteers.
The Casa de la Palestina is a unique property in Huaquechula. Built in the 18th century, it stands out for its composite arches and interior moldings, it is located right next to the famous San Martín de Tours Ex-convent. This will be our setting for the conservation, rescue and enhancement project, in which we collaborate with the INAH Puebla Center, the Municipality of Huaquechula and the state Ministry of Culture. Added to this is the exchange of good practices that will be carried out through the French Embassy in Mexico, with the French association REMPART.
Our mission is to revitalize this historic building to return it to the cultural activities of this population, with the possibility that very soon it will house the site museum. With this, we contribute not only to the rescue of the Cultural Heritage, but also to the improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants of Huaquechula.
REQUIREMENTS: If you are of legal age and feel passionate about being part of the rescue of the built Cultural Heritage, you cannot let it pass. Additionally, we recommend that you bring a camera or recorder with you if you wish to document local traditions, customs and knowledge.
