The volunteers will collaborate with local organic farmers in the Amarante region to support environmentally sustainable practices and community development. Their tasks will include harvesting grapes and other seasonal produce, planting, weeding, composting, and preparing natural fertilizers. Volunteers will also assist with farm logistics, contributing to both food production and environmental preservation. Through these activities, volunteers will gain hands-on experience in ecological farming methods and deepen their understanding of sustainable food systems. Beyond the fields, they will engage with local farmers to exchange green practices and promote eco-conscious living, fostering a spirit of environmental responsibility. By participating in this project, volunteers will actively contribute to the sustainability of the local community while enjoying the scenic beauty and unique cultural experience of northern Portugal.

Volunteers will stay at the hostel Casa da Juventude de Amarante (Youth Center), accommodated in gender-separated dormitories with four beds each, exclusively reserved for the group. The facility offers amenities such as internet access, workspaces, and free laundry services, with bed linens, blankets, and towels provided. Meals from Monday to Saturday are vegetarian, including protein-rich options, and served at the center s restaurant. Volunteers also enjoy one non-vegetarian dinner each week. On Sundays, participants receive euro20 food as allowance, reimbursed upon receipt submission, and can prepare meals using the center s kitchen. Specific dietary requirements should be communicated in advance to ensure a comfortable stay.

The Youth Center is located in Amarante, offering volunteers a chance to explore the scenic town during their free time. Workdays start at 9:00 AM and typically end at 4:00 or 5:00 PM, leaving evenings free for leisure. Weekends are free, providing opportunities to discover the local area or relax. Volunteers will also receive a ticket for an independent cultural visit to Porto on the first Sunday, offering insights into the city s rich heritage and culture.

The activities will take place across several local organic farms, including Quinta Vila Caiz, Equacao CRL, Mimos de Arnoia, and Quinta da Palmeirinha, among others. These farms are dedicated to sustainable agriculture and environmental management, offering volunteers a hands-on experience in organic farming practices. Each location provides a unique setting, from lush vineyards to vegetable gardens, where participants can engage in tasks such as planting, harvesting, and maintaining the land. These farms not only serve as a platform for learning about eco-friendly practices but also foster a sense of community and connection with nature. This activity is part of ESC High Priority Area VEIL-CORPS funded by the European Union in the frame of the European Solidarity Corps Programme.

Volunteers should have a strong interest in sustainability, organic farming, and environmental care. Prior experience is not necessary, but participants must be eager to learn and actively engage in all activities. Openness to collaboration in an inclusive and supportive environment is essential. Volunteers should be adaptable and physically prepared for outdoor tasks, as well as comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Full availability for the program s duration and enthusiasm for its ecological and community-centered mission are mandatory.Registration to the European Youth Portal is needed - https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/young-people/about_enEuropean IMPORTANT.
