You will work each weekday morning for 4 hours under the guidance of a professional mason and local residents. You’ll learn various techniques and participate in the rehabilitation of a public garden wall and the restoration of the church square.
If you have extra time or want to mix things up, no worries—the Arvieu Castle site is an ongoing, beautiful worksite, and the team will be happy to have your help.
You will also take part daily in maintaining the premises and preparing meals. Meal planning will be a collective effort, aiming for a balanced diet based on your preferences/dietary needs and local, seasonal products. Cooking is considered part of the worksite, just like the construction activities.

You’ll be housed at Arvieu Castle, a beautiful building set within several wooded hectares, just a 5-minute walk from the village center.
Sleeping arrangements are shared dormitory-style rooms with communal bathrooms on the same floor. Curtains are available in dorms for extra privacy. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag.
Wi-Fi access is available, but the connection is open and very unstable.
A washing machine is available for reasonable and scheduled use.
On the castle’s ground floor, you’ll find a large, friendly dining room next to a kitchen that will be used to prepare your daily meals.
Meals will be healthy, local, and primarily vegetarian. Two meat-based meals will be offered each week.
You’ll also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining your living spaces daily.

This project is not a tourist trip. Full participation from beginning to end is expected, and you must not be involved in any other concurrent obligations (e.g., university, work) as these are incompatible.
That said, there will be free time in the afternoons for discovering the local area, exploring cultural heritage, and joining scheduled activities or local events (cinema/shows, creative workshops at the shared Fablab Obrador, farm visits, intergenerational meet-ups, etc.).
You’ll also have the opportunity to visit Rodez, including its cathedral, the Soulages Museum, and more.
There are many hiking trails, such as those around Lake Pareloup, for sporty exploration of the region. You can even go geocaching right in Arvieu.
The Insect City museum, located about 30 km away, might also pique your interest.

Come and discover a vibrant rural village while learning hands-on skills to enhance public spaces. The village of Arvieu, located in the heart of the Lévézou region and near Lake Pareloup, has 800 inhabitants and sits at an altitude of 800 meters.
This experience will immerse you in the village ecosystem—recognized as a "Smart Village"—which includes over 25 associations and a third-place facility combining public and socio-cultural services, professional activities, and more broadly, the Social and Solidarity Economy.
For several years, the municipality of Arvieu and its local ecosystem have been working to improve village life for residents and to attract and welcome newcomers. This experience allows you to live at the heart of a dynamic yet peaceful natural environment.
