The Springhornhof art association is the starting point for exploring a unique "open museum". Since the 1970s, more than forty freely accessible works of art have been erected in the woods and fields, on lakeshores and heathland. A signposted circular route leads from station to station along small country roads and country lanes. All the works were specially designed for their locations. Many of the objects have attractive locations off the beaten track and open up unusual perspectives on an old cultural landscape. Your group will support the art association in repairing the sculptures and installations. Together with local craftsmen, you will replace a fence, give a metal sculpture a bright red coat of paint and work with a carpenter to replace rotten beams on two other sculptures. The craftsmen are keen to work with an international group and will be happy to pass on their expertise to you.

Neuenkirchen has 5.500 residents and is located in the center of the nature park Lüneburg Heath, a unique cultural landscape and one of the most popular destinations for trips in Germany. There is an outdoor swimming pool, an ice cream parlour and you will have the opportunity to go horseback riding or visiting a sheep farm. Apart from that, you will have bikes provided, which you can use for trips into the Heath. Bigger cities like Hamburg, Hannover and Bremen can be easily reached by train. You are close to the adventure park Heidepark Soltau, a kart track, the Serengetipark (Animal Park), a bird park and a climbing park.

The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths.
