This year has a special significance, as both the Basic Law and the IJGD are celebrating their 75th anniversary. In this study camp, we want to explore the historical foundations of democracy in Germany up to its current manifestations. You will be able to take part in interactive workshops and to get actively involved. These workshops will be complemented by excursions to important historical sites, including the Anne Frank Educational Center and the renowned "Historical Museum" in Frankfurt. We also want to discuss other important topics with you, such as gender equality, intercultural learning and anti-racism/anti-discrimination based on the principles of the IJGD. We will end the camp with a creative part where you will take portrait photos of each other and share your personal understanding of democracy. In addition to the intensive exchange and the excursions, there will be enough time during the weekend to go on trips or to explore Frankfurt in the evenings during the week. One afternoon we will also visit you and present the work of ijgd and you can learn a lot about our volunteer services. At the same time, an international ijgd workcamp is taking place in the area, so perhaps we can arrange a meeting.
This project is funded by the European Solidarity Corps of the European Commission.

You'll be staying in the beautiful countryside in Egelsbach in the Naturfreundehaus, yet just outside the metropolis of Frankfurt. Egelsbach is very well connected to Frankfurt by S-Bahn. Frankfurt has a lot to offer: culture, going out, shopping, events. You can visit other cities such as Heidelberg and Cologne. In Langen there is a beautiful natural outdoor pool where you can chill out and swim.

The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Our principles: Ecological learning, voluntary contribution, self-organisation, social development, intercultural learning, gender equality, anti-racism/anti-discrimination and political education.

Active participation in the workshops is required. This is an ESC project, more precisely a volunteer team, which is supported by the European Solidarity Corps program of the European Commission. There are some significant financial and administrative differences compared to the usual workcamp: PLEASE NOTE: This project is open to 18-30 year old participants from Germany and other ESC partner countries - You do not have to pay any (participation) fees to participate in the project - You must be present for the entire duration of the camp in order to be reimbursed your pocket money (7€/day) for common leisure activities as well as travel expenses. The maximum amount of financial support for your travel expenses depends on the distance traveled and the presentation of original tickets. - Volunteers must complete a participation report, which is submitted online via the ESC portal.
