This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustanable City and Community), organized together with Tsurugi Minor Grain Production and Sales Association.
Tsurugi Town is an area that has been recognised worldwide as a World Agricultural Heritage Site for its Sloping Land Farming System of Nishi Awa, and in the Mikitochi settlement in particular, there are many Tsurugi minor grains growers and sellers, and minor grains, the symbolic crop of the Nishi Awa region, are actively grown in the area. Many minor grains are grown in the area, including kokibi, takakibi, millet, buckwheat, pearl millet and glutinous millet, but in this village, located in a mountainous area, there is a marked shortage of manpower due to the declining and ageing population. In particular, the height of the takakibi plant grows to more than 2.5 m at harvest time, and it is very difficult for the elderly in the community to harvest the crop alone. It is also expected to help preserve the village and maintain the landscape. The community is looking for a traditional minor cereal grower and would like to accept people who are interested in farming, even if only a little, and ask them to support the community.
