Since 2019, it has managed the Youth Hostel located inside the small medieval village of Roccantica, a multifunctional space dedicated to hospitality, to channel the opportunities for development and enhancement of the territory. In the village takes place the annual event “Medioevo in Festa” since 1996 on the initiative of the Municipality and the Proloco of Roccantica with the aim of enhancing and rediscovering the history of this small medieval village, between history and fantasy: it is a very suggestive costume festival with a Middle Ages theme. This event is centered on the reenactment of the historical period that goes from 1059 to 1432. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals:SustainableCommunities-SDG11.
WORK: The days will be structured by dedicating a first part of the work to the preparation of the Festival together with the Proloco of Roccantica (kitchen setup, arrangement of traditional clothes and setup of spaces dedicated to the festival and arrangement and care of places and areas nearby) manual agricultural activities as the camp volunteers will be housed in temporary structures set up within the land owned by a local farm. In the central days of the camp, you will actively participate in the Medieval Festival contributing with both logistical and artistic support.

The group is accommodated in a tent, in an area 10 minutes walk from the village of Roccantica. Spartan accommodation on the ground with shared bathrooms, compost toilets and solar showers (hot water provided by solar panels). The cleaning of the spaces and the preparation of meals will be managed by the volunteers themselves through cleaning/cooking shifts. The group will have access to a pantry on the basis of which to build a weekly menu in compliance with allergies/intolerances and special diets. Group life, shared management of the kitchen, cleaning and shared moments between games, excursions, experiences.

Roccantica is a small village in the Province of Rieti in Lazio region. It is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Rome and about 20 kilometers southwest of Rieti in the area called Sabina. The landscape is made of hills covered with olives, which rise towards steeper mountains, with extensive oak and beech and small medieval villages, castles and monasteries. It is a landscape that has remained substantially unchanged over time and little affected by modern building development.Roccantica is located on the slopes of "Pizzuto" mountain at 454 meters. The free time activity will be organized by the leaders to allow participants to explore the village and the surroundings. During their free time, volunteers could make some excursions, workshops and sports.

ALA is a promotional association that focuses in activities for young people and adults in rural areas. The center of its work takes place in Sabina, an agricultural area north of Rome (40 km) where the association has made local development and youth policies its main vocation. The association works to build an idea of an inclusive and educational community where everyone has the opportunity to find the space to express themselves, outside of any social or political judgment. On a daily basis it deals with youth aggregation, active citizenship and participation, hospitality and receptivity and local development for the purpose of sustainable tourism, redevelopment of abandoned or disused public spaces.
